Inn of the Month: The Grand Summit Resort

Ski-in/ski-out doesn't get any easier than at The Grand Summit Resort Hotel at The Canyons. The 360-unit condominium hotel was basically built around the Flight of the Canyons eight-person gondola. As a result, the lobby is just 25 steps from the lift via heated sidewalk.

The hotel's majestic exterior mirrors the local landscape: yellow, sage and brown are accented with reddish sandstone. Inside, the décor is mountain-chic. Guestrooms are decked out with gas fireplaces, leather chairs, VCRs and Nintendo, batik artwork by local artists, distressed wood armoires and window seats that overlook the mountain. Most have fully stocked kitchenettes with wood-fronted appliances.

In terms of facilities, the resort is fully loaded. A 4,000-square-foot health club and spa offers therapeutic massages and facials, a steam room, sauna, workout facility, poolside café and a stunning heated pool, complete with red-rock surroundings, gazebo, waterfall and three sunken hot tubs. Step directly into the pool from the club locker room via the magic tunnel and your toes need never touch the snow. Families will appreciate the on-site daycare, nursery, arcade, heated kid's pool and dining tables that seat up to eight. A lobby bar with overstuffed leather chairs, copper lamps and pottery and a second-level sitting area that overlooks the lobby are comfortable places to socialize or play backgammon after dinner.

The Cabin restaurant earns rave reviews for its "eclectic cuisine of the American West." Former San Francisco Ritz-Carlton Chef Houman Gohary serves unique dishes such as goat cheese-stuffed chicken breast with tomato coulis and wild mushroom tamales. Enjoy his creations in the log-cabin-styled environs or in the comfort of your suite, via room service. Presentations are almost as pretty as the esteemed Utah powder falling outside.
