Shane McConkey is widely regarded as one of the most influential skier ever, and certainly the most charismatic and creative skier of his generation. From alpine racer to freeskier to inventor to ski BASE jumper, McConkey's life—and tragic death—is captured in this film directed by Steve Winter, Murray Wais, Scott Gaffney, David Zieff, and Rob Bruce. It will play April 21, 24, and 27 in New York City's Tribeca Film Festival. Single tickets are available to the general public.

Shane McConkey followed in the footsteps of his father, Jim McConkey, who is known as the father of extreme skiing. He starred in numerous ski films, and became famous for the Saucer Boy character he played. After mounting a pair of water skis with alpine bindings in Alaska, Shane essentially invented rocker and reverse sidecut in powder skis—eventually designing the Volant Spatula and K2 Pontoon. He also pioneered the combination of skiing and BASE jumping, successfully skiing into a BASE jump off the Eiger. Despite all of his accomplishments, however, he was best known for being a down-to-earth guy—adored and revered by all who knew him. McConkey died in 2009 in the Dolomites after he failed to kick off his skis mid-air. His parachute was never deployed. The ski world has been in mourning ever since.
