Father Luke Sheehan established McMenamin’s Old St. Francis school in 1936. Today the old schoolhouse, thirty minutes from Mt. Bachelor, operates as a hotel, pub, and theater. There are 19 guest rooms and four rental cottages, as well as a pub, microbrewery, bakery, pool tables, and a movie theater. The walls are lined with photos of past students and old lockers. Guest rooms are named after former students and faculty and most were once classrooms. Be sure to bring your swim suit because, as the hotel’s website points out, Father Luke might not approve of your skinny-dipping in the Turkish-style indoor soaking pool.
