1,650 lift-served acres; 2,070 vertical feet, plus another 1,780 vertical feet of hike-to terrain; 65 runs; 400 annual inches; five lifts, including a high-speed six-pack. Tickets: $39, $34 if you show a previous Moonlight Basin day pass.
Lodging
There’s no slopeside hotel, but condos, cabins and homes can be rented, usually with a three-night minimum stay (800-845-4428).
Dining
The sole on-mountain dinner option is the upscale Timbers Restaurant in the expansive Moonlight Lodge, which serves savory, if pricey, entrees, such as a $35 Montana beef tenderloin with hazelnut-whipped potatoes (406-995-7777). Down the road, Rainbow Ranch boasts a 6,500-bottle wine cellar (800-937-4132).
Getting there
Moonlight is adjacent to Big Sky, about 47 miles south of Bozeman’s Gallatin Field. Take Highway 10 to Highway 291, which becomes Highway 191. Continue south for 39 miles. Turn right at the Big Sky Resort sign and continue until you reach Moonlight Basin.
