Mt. Hood Meadows has by far the most varied terrain of the Mt. Hood ski areas and is as big as many Western destination resorts. The Vista Express quad lift gets you to terrain that is not much used. Slopes to skier’s right off the lift are regularly groomed and are some of the best and most diverse terrain on the mountain. Perhaps the name should be changed from the Badlands to the Goodlands. It’s full of expert powder caches, pitches, cruisers and some beginner runs. Freestylers can now get to the Vista Park plus South Park and the superpipe in one run.Heather Canyon, when it is open, has always been the favorite for experts. Three of its entry runs-Twilight, Pluto and Moon Bowl-are winchcat-groomed, which means advanced and upper-intermediate skiers can go where they once had feared to tread. Snowcat skiing adds another 1,020 feet of vertical drop. To start way high with the runs into Super Bowl, you must take the Super Bowl Snow Cat from the top of Cascade Express. The ride costs $10 per trip.
