Ore House at the Pines Grove

Good steak in a casual atmosphere.
Ore House at the Pines Grove

Ore House is a little pricey for the casual atmosphere, but if you want a good steak, and can’t see yourself forcing your kid to wear a nice shirt, come to this spot. Service is usually prompt—although they have been known to drop the ball here and there—and the wait staff is super friendly. The menu offers a ton of different meats and cuts to choose from, but make sure not to miss out on the lean, tender elk steak served with sweet and tangy lingonberry sauce and make sure to get the house potato on the side. The restaurant has just been gaining popularity even though it has been in existence since the early ‘90s. Make sure to make a reservation and come early to check out the old ranch memorabilia from the 1800s. While it is a little on the cheesy and touristy side, kids love it. If you come right from the hill—five to six p.m.—you can catch the Sunset Menu—an entrée and all-you-can-eat salad bar for just under 16 bucks. Pick from classic Ore House meals, like the fresh Rocky Mountain trout or top sirloin steak. Portions are huge, so either share or make room in your stomach for dessert because the chocolate mousse is worth its own trip to Steamboat.
