Be among the first to check out what’s being touted as the new standard for luxury hotels in the mountains. The just-opened Arrabelle at Vail Square offers 36 rooms, 50 condos, rooftop pools, ski and boot valets, and a “great room” with front-row views of the mountain—among other fineries—all steps from the Eagle Bahn gondola. And each guest is assigned a personal concierge at check-in to fill in any blanks. There’s also skiing. With warm spring weather, the Back Bowls soften up sooner—and stay soft longer—than during high season. For those looking for skiing’s version of comfort food, Vail grooms 1,600 acres nightly.
Moderate to Good. The Eagle County Airport is a low-hassle 35-minute shuttle ride from Vail. Most visitors, however, fly into Denver International Airport, which can be a two-hour drive—or much longer, depending on weather, traffic and the vicissitudes of two mountain passes.

Click out of your 172-cm shaped skis, unzip your soft-shell Gore-Tex coat, stop checking your BlackBerry, and head to the Colorado Ski Museum to pay homage to those who did more with less. Open daily until 8 p.m. Free (skimuseum.net).
