Record numbers of skiers and snowboarders flocked to Loveland Ski Area in Colorado Friday to celebrate Opening Day. Georgetown, CO Oct. 15, 2004 - Record numbers of skiers and snowboarders flocked to Loveland Ski Area in Colorado Friday to celebrate Opening Day. For the fifth consecutive season, Loveland is the first resort in the United States to officially open for the 2004-05 ski and snowboard season.

Enthusiastic skiers and riders began to fill the parking lot three hours before the ski area's scheduled 9 a.m. opening. Resort officials reported at day's end that Loveland surpassed its previous opening day record by more than 50 percent.

"Early season snowfall and tremendous industry support created a huge buzz for the 2004-05 season," said Loveland marketing director, Kevin Wright. "Skiers and riders are passionate about their sport and Loveland Ski Area has earned a reputation as the place to be for the first day of the season."

Loveland Ski Area has received 48 inches of natural snow and more snow is in the forecast. Early season lift tickets cost $34 for adults and $16 for children (ages 6-14). Loveland has extended its discounted season pass and '4-Pak' sales through Nov. 15. Season passes and '4-Paks' are available online at, by phone at 1-800-736-3SKI, or at the Denver Ski Expo Nov. 5-7.

"There is nothing like a good blanketing of snow across the Colorado high country to get the energy flowing for another exciting winter season, said Rob Perlman, president and CEO of Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA).

Around the state, ski resorts received a boost from Mother Nature this week. Arapahoe Basin is expected to open next week followed by the rest of Colorado's mountains opening throughout October and November, as conditions permit.
