1.Mad River Glen, Vt.

Mad River Glen, Vt.Brian Mohr/

“Ski it if you can! Little mountain that skis sooo big! Aside from the terrain, the vibe, people and value can’t be beat. Great for families. Single chair rocks.”

2. Smugglers’ Notch, Vt.

Smugglers’ Notch, Vt.Smuggler’s Notch

“Great resort, down to earth, friendly people. Excellent programs for kids. Plenty of beginner terrain for learners, and tons of advanced terrain for pros. Trails are interesting, challenging and long. Lots of double fall lines and winding tight trails. The terrain can’t be beat. Overall a great value.”

3. Cannon Mt., N.H.

Cannon Mt., N.H.Cannon

Cannon is all about the skiing!!! It’s a very easy day trip from the Boston area, offering the best (by far!) terrain and snow within 2 hours. Being in a National Forest, Cannon is not overbuilt like some resorts. Fantastic value!!!”

4. Jay Peak, Vt.

Jay Peak is an amazing resort. You can find great deals on their website and sometimes get even better discounts through Group-On. The skiing is amazing, and the whole experience is top notch. A very family friendly resort although it is a great destination for all groups and ages.”

5. Gore, N.Y.

6. Wildcat, N.H.

“I have skied at Wildcat my whole life and I love it. It get’s pretty cold if you have a NW wind, but it is a classic New England ski hill!”

7. Mount Snow, Vt.

“It’s a great area, lots of options other than skiing. They are improving every year with restaurants and terrain park. Childcare and ski school is awesome and a good value”

8. Sugarbush, Vt.

Sugarbush, VTJohn Atkinson

“I have been skiing at Sugarbush annually my whole life and over the last couple years have become a 40+ day seasonal skier at the mountain and I couldn’t be happier with my experiences here. I love Sugarbush.”

9. Holiday Valley, N.Y.

Holiday Valley is where I fell in love with the sport. My dad started taking me here from Cleveland when I was in elementary school, have always considered it my home mountain. For the area, Holiday Valley has some great terrain. This is a down-to-earth resort that I have always had a wonderful time with family and friends at. Highly recommend it to anyone within reasonable driving distance.”

10. Wachusett, Mass.
