The Mount Washington Hotel is the last of the opulent 19th century resort hotels, a former summer-only retreat that is just now celebrating it’s first winter season. The “Romance in the Mountains” package is good through the end of the season in mid-April and includes accommodations, daily breakfast and nightly four-course dinner, nightly entertainment, champagne welcome, keepsake Mount Washington glasses, fresh flowers, discounted lift tickets and cross-country trail passes for Bretton Woods, and a horse-drawn sleigh ride for two. The Inn at Water’s Edge is a 150-year-old Victorian-era house on Echo Lake. It has 11 antique-filled rooms, fireplaces, and Jacuzzi baths, not to mention an authentic English pub that was disassembled and brought over from Britain. Leave it the resort SKI Magazine ranked number one for families to turn Valentine’s Day into a family escape. If you can’t leave the kids, or you don’t want to leave them, consider heading to Smugglers’ Notch. Check out the “Club Smugglers’ Package with FamilyFest,” which still allows you time for romance. The kids spend the day in Discovery Ski Camp (ages 3-5) or Adventure Ski & Snowboard Camp (ages 6-12) from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Smart parents can take advantage of that time for skiing, snowshoeing, massages or hot tubs. At night, arrange for a dinner “a deux” while the kids are taken care of. Chateau Mont Tremblant is a 316-room slopeside hotel at Intrawest’s Tremblant resort in Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains. Amenities include Le Spa, with 15 treatment rooms and an outdoor heated pool.
