With an entire mountain built around four high-alpine ridges, you know it’s going to be a good day. Kicking Horse is no joke, with, in places, high exposure but very high reward. You get out of it what you put in.
SKI: As long as you have the stones—and the skills—it’s hard to go wrong at Kicking Horse. Start with a lap on CPR Ridge off Golden Eagle Express, and then take the Stairway to Heaven chair and hike 10 minutes farther up to spin some laps on Whitewall and Feuz Bowl. Oh, and then there’s T1 and T2 too.
DRINK: Head into Golden for brews at the Riverhouse Tavern. It’ll be within walking distance of your RV if you park in town. And with skis on the walls, a big poster of Notorious B.I.G., a stripper pole, and a local-bar vibe, you’re in for a good night.
EAT: Start your day at the Big Bend Café in Golden for breakfast and coffee. For lunch, pamper yourself—and drop some coin—at Eagle’s Eye Restaurant at the top of the Golden Eagle Express gondola. Great food, amazing views, and delicious Caesars (the drink, not the salad; remember, you’re in Canada). Try the truffle fries and a Montreal Caesar, with prosciutto-infused vodka.
SLEEP: Unless it’s a powder day and you’re hell-bent on getting first chair (it wasn’t, so we weren’t), stay in town. There’s an RV park, but we found a free spot next to a bowling alley just steps from the Riverhouse Tavern and Big Bend Café.
