Finding itself with an aging wastewater system and a belief that a resort on public land should protect the environment in every way, White Pass developed a Recirculating Gravel Filter (RGF) system. The first RGF system in ski country protects the village’s groundwater system and other water sources as well. The result was a reduction in effluent strengths of 97 percent over septic tank/drainfield treatments and a solution that far exceeded minimums required by the state. White Pass’s wastewater treatment system is a permanent and committed step in water conservation which demonstrates a sincere interest in going beyond mere compliance and simple economics.
