The cost of a day of skiing at some of Colorado’s most popular resorts, such as Vail or Crested Butte, can feel equivalent to the down payment on your house. If you’re in search of a bargain, backcountry-style terrain, and affordable heli skiing, however, keep driving past the overpriced resorts and wind your way down the infamous Million Dollar Highway to check out Silverton Mountain. An authentic, no-frills ski area tucked away in the San Juan mountains surrounding Silverton, Colo., the mountain is currently offering an incredible deal on their Unguided Pass for the 2018-19 ski season.
Their Unguided Pass includes access to the mountain during their Spring Unguided Season, 42 days of skiing at other ski areas all over North America, and a slew of other discounts. And, until August 1, you can purchase Silverton’s Unguided Pass for the early bird price of $149.
The season for Silverton’s Unguided Pass begins on March 21, 2019, which is their earliest spring start date in the mountain’s history, and will be valid until their closing date on April 14, 2019. Silverton Mountain is open for operations Thursday through Sunday each week.
With the Unguided Pass comes multiple discounts on other features of Silverton Mountain. When guided ski season opens on December 27, 2018, Unguided Pass holders will be able to purchase stand-by guided day tickets for the discounted rate of $89. With a guided ticket, heli drops will be available for only $39. This is easily the least expensive heli skiing in North America.
Want to get in the heli before December 27? Silverton is planning to open for heli skiing starting on November 24, 2018, seven days a week. Check out their heli skiing page for more details.
Additionally, on March 20, the day before the unguided season officially begins, there will be an exclusive private day on the mountain for Unguided Pass holders to get in those turns before sharing the hill with the public. And when you get thirsty from all of that vigorous skiing, Silverton will be offering $2 premium draft beers throughout the season.
The Unguided Pass also includes 42 ski days at partner resorts, all of which offer a traditional skiing experience and the cost of food at the base lodges won’t empty your wallet.
- Snow King Mountain, Wyo.

- Homewood Mountain Resort, Calif.

Pass holders are allotted 3 days at each of the partner resorts.
There are only a limited quantity of Unguided Passes available at the early bird rate for the 2018-19 season before the price jumps to $499. So, if you plan on straying from resort life this winter in search of peace, quiet, steeps and powder, it’s probably not in your best interest to wait until August 1 for the price jump.
