South Lake Tahoe, CA

– Even though spring has sprung in Lake Tahoe, there is still plenty of winter left at Sierra and Northstar, where the resorts are reporting up to 10 feet of snow at the top of the mountain. While some resorts are starting to wind down, Sierra and Northstar are springing on the savings with incredible incentives to hit the slopes this season and get a jump on next season.

Sierra-at-Tahoe’s Spring It On Pass
Everyone knows springtime is the best time to hit the slopes in Lake Tahoe. With some of the deepest snow pack around and temperatures in the sixties, spring skiing captures the essence of California. Sierra-at-Tahoe created the Spring It On pass for people who want to hang out on the sundeck, ski/board in tank tops and work on their goggle tans. For just $89, the pass is valid seven days a week for the remainder of the winter season. Sierra-at-Tahoe is slated to close April 19th, conditions permitting.

$39 Ski/Board Shop Vouchers
Sacramento, Bay Area and Reno residents can save up to $19 on lift tickets from now through the end of the season just by stopping by their local ski or snowboard shop and picking up a coupon valid for a $39 adult all-day lift ticket. There is no purchase necessary to take advantage of the savings. For a list of participating shops, visit

From the Tubing Derby to the Chevy Truck U.S. National Freestyle Championship to the Dummy Gelande and Slush Pond Mania, the resort is gearing up to celebrate the most massive spring festival in resort history — SpringLoaded ’04. The event is filled with wild and wacky on-mountain activities, live music, delicious food, street fairs and plenty of that famous California sunshine.

This year’s SpringLoaded ’04 event kicks off March 24, with the Tube-O-Rama Tubing Derby at Adventure Peak, and stretches through the first weekend in May, when the resort says “Adios” to the season with its first-ever “Uno de Mayo” celebration, May 1. Events highlighted along the way include the Chevy Truck U.S. Freestyle Championship, March 26-28. The three-day venue highlights the nation’s top mogul and aerial athletes as they compete at Heavenly for the title. The action is set to take place at the resort’s California freestyle arena, with additional events including a Saturday evening performance by headlinner band Stroke 9 and a fireworks display. SpringLoaded events continue with the Dummy Gelande, April 8 where participants put their creativity to the test and race their “dummy” down World Cup run to see whose creation can fly the farthest.

April 10 marks Glen Plake’s Gunbarrel 25, where Glen himself and competitors participate in the one-of-a-kind ski marathon on Heavenly’s famous Gunbarrel run. Athletes race to see who can endure 25 laps on North America’s toughest bump run on the resort’s California side. Finishers will receive a commemorative pin designed by Glen himself. In addition, the person to complete the most laps will have their name engraved on the shotgun trophy to be displayed inside Heavenly’s California Lodge.

Peter Cottontail will make his annual visit to the mountain, April 10-11, during Heavenly’s Easter Egg-stravaganza. Colorful, prize-filled eggs will be scattered around the mountain for children of all ages to find. In addition, Heavenly will host a family fun snowshoe race and tubing derby, along with free on-mountain concerts Easter day. Spring breakers can cool off at Slush Pond Mania, April 17, where skiers and riders will compete to see who will fly to stay dry…or sink and swim.

While the resort’s tentative closing date is scheduled for Sunday, April 18, Heavenly will also be open Friday, April 30 for a three-day skiing and riding celebration, extending through Sunday, May 2. The weekend will be highlighted by the resort’s end-of-the-season “Uno de Mayo” party on Saturday, May 1. Festivities include a rail jam, on-mountain barbecues and live bands.

Following the day’s activities, Harrah’s and Harveys will also host their own first annual “Cinco de Caboऔ celebration in conjunction with the grand opening of Sammy Hagar’s newest Cabo Wabo Cantina located inside Harveys Casino Resort. Hagar will officially open the doors of the Cabo Wabo Cantina at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 30, which will remain open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner as well as offering a late-night club scene.

Additionally, on April 30, May 1 and 2, the famed Harrah’s showroom will be transformed into the “Cabo Wabo Nightclub.” Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas will perform on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1, while Sunday, May 2, will feature “Sammy Hagar and Friends.”
