Squaw Valley receives 5" of snow on Memorial Day Weekend.May 27, 2006
Olympic Valley, CA - (News Release) - Squaw Valley USA was covered this morning (Saturday, May 27) with 5" of fresh snow. This late season snowfall may have foiled the plans of Tahoe visitors who hoped to spend Memorial Day weekend on the lake, but for skiers and snowboarders it was the perfect end to one of the biggest seasons in Squaw Valley history.
To date this season, Squaw Valley USA has received 628 inches or over 52 ft of snow on the upper mountain. Following Tahoe's "epic" 2004-2005 winter, the sentiment was that this season could not compare. However, when comparing last season to this season, Squaw Valley has received 136 inches more than last season and 178 inches more than Squaw Valley's annual average snowfall of 450 inches.
Squaw Valley USA enjoys one of the longest winters in North America, with skiing and snowboarding through the end of May and the occasional powder day falling as late in the season as Memorial Day Weekend.
