Who says you have to put your skis away for the summer? OK, maybe your super-sidecuts can go into storage, but keep the water boards out if you’re headed to Wisconsin. At Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, located 2 miles east of the Midwest resort mecca Lake Geneva, water skiing is a summertime favorite, as are paddleboating and sailing. On land, the options range from hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding to spa services and any ball sport you can think of. Also, with two quality courses, the Brute and the Highlands, golf is a major attraction (800-558-3417). Keep the children entertained at the Grand Adventure Kids Camp for ages 4-12, where every week there’s a different theme, such as Under The Sea Week (262-249-4750). The kids will also love Grand Geneva Resort’s annual Fourth of July celebration on July 3, where there’s face painting, carnival games and a patriotic parade topped off with fireworks and an ice cream social (262-249-4741). For something out of the ordinary, take a tour of Geneva Lake via the mailboat, which makes deliveries to vacationing lakeside homeowners (800-558-5911) or absorb the scenery while sipping champagne on a sunset balloon flight (Sunbird Balloons, 877-933-6359). On a rainy day, visit Watson’s Wild West Museum in Elkhorn (10 miles away) and Yerkes Observatory in nearby William’s Bay. For shopping, dining or simply a change of pace, head downtown to explore the boutiques and restaurants.

DON’T MISS Dinner at Ristorante Brissago, which serves up hearty northern Italian, or the Newport Grill for a feast of steak and seafood.

BEST DEAL Two nights in a deluxe B&B, breakfast each morning and admission for two to the Spa and Sport Center for $539 plus tax. Call (800) 558-3417, or visit
