The Steamboat Ski Resort is proud to be an active member of the National Ski Area Association's (NSAA) Sustainable Slopes Program and is a strong supporter of the Environmental Charter. Here at Steamboat we take great pride in our environmental initiatives which span across all departments. We are devoted to proper stewardship of our natural resources and the ecology of our alpine environment. On February 21st, Sustainable Slopes Outreach Day, we have a number of programs planned. Our 2004 campaign will include:

Rewards for carpooling or riding mass transit, therefore reducing CO2 emissions or global warming pollutants (skiers and riders arriving at the ski resort in high occupancy vehicles (HOV's) on Saturday will receive an informational flier and will be entered into a prize drawing to win a snowboard, a First Tracks Powder Clinic and a Specialty Ski Clinic.

An environmental kiosk to help communicate the story of our far-reaching environmental efforts and programs. This will take place at our permanent Environmental Kiosk exhibit in the Thunderhead lobby (top of the gondola) where we will have volunteers discussing and handouts highlighting environmental programs at the ski resort including "Steamboat Ski Resort Cares," Every Drop Counts, Light on the Land, Recycle/Reuse, How YOU Can Help. Additionally, we will showcase our partners in environmental sustainability, the US Forest Service, Yampatika, and Yampa Valley Recycles and have a display on bark beetle suppression efforts on our forest.

Three hosted 3 eco-tours on Saturday, one on skis/boards, and the other two on snowshoes during the day. We will also feature Environmental Outreach Day on our daily Snow Report (faxed, emailed and on the radio stations and websites), on our Snow phone, on our daily grooming map, on the Straight Talk report on our website, on the Peak Sheet, on the What's New page on our website, and on posters in the Information Center.
