Lake Tahoe Summer Music Festival presents Bizet's Carmen

Georges Bizet's melodic opera Carmen will be presented at Granlibakken Resort by the Berkley Opera, directed by Russell Blackwood and conducted by Jonathan Khuner. Carmen was originally condemned in Paris in the late 1800s for being uninteresting and undramatic. Today, Carmen is one of the most popular operas. From its conception as the passionate love story between a gypsy and a soldier, the play was toned down to appeal to a wider audience. In this new adaptation, David Scott Marley returns to Bizet's original thematic ideal. Enjoy dinner and this fine performance, August 11, 2001. Dinner begins at 6pm. Tickets are $75.
