Vail No. 1 for 14th Time in 19 Years

September 18, 2006

VAIL, CO - (News Release) - SKI Magazine readers recognized Vail Mountain as the No. 1 ski resort in North America for the 14th time since the survey began in 1988. In the 19th annual October "Top 50 Resort Guide" issue, magazine editors noted that while Vail is "all things to all people," they credit the resort's execution of utilizing its natural assets, featuring four terrain parks, seven bowls and 5,289 acres of distinctly different terrain.

Consistency in many areas of the resort experience also plays into Vail's success. Readers rated Vail in the top ten in 13 of 18 possible survey categories including snow, grooming, terrain variety, lifts, service, weather, on mountain food, lodging, dining, après ski, off-hill activities, terrain parks and overall satisfaction.

"Our staff and community take great pride in being recognized as the No. 1 ski resort in North America," said Bill Jensen, co-president of Vail Resorts mountain division and chief operating officer for Vail Mountain. "We appreciate their efforts in providing a world class vacation experience. This is an exciting time for Vail and our guests will see improvements both on and off the hill in the next few years with many projects completed or nearing completion. We thank the readers for acknowledging us."

Currently the resort is in the midst of Vail's billion dollar renewal, which includes the addition of The Arrabelle at Vail Square and the Front Door in Vail Village. The Arrabelle development in LionsHead will include many new skier services with a European-style plaza, outdoor ice skating rink, new dining and shopping options and spa amenities, plus a 36-room RockResort luxury hotel slated to open late in 2007. Throughout the community a variety of public and private projects are underway, which will improve the overall experience. On-mountain, the resort continues to focus on its grooming effort, safety education, terrain parks and events. For additional information on Vail visit
