Westwood, CA, Nov. 9, 2000 (SAM Magazine)–We may not yet know whothe next U.S. President will be, but Lassen County voters Tuesday weredecisive in their approval of a zone change that could lead to the firstski area built in California in 30 years.

More than 62 percent of countyvoters said “yes” to a proposal that will rezone 6,800 acres southwest ofWestwood as “mountain resort” land to establish a four-season resort nextto the Mountain Meadows Reservoir. The proposed ski and snowboard area isexpected to boast 2,400 feet of vertical, golf courses, single-familyhomesites modeled on Adirondack-style camps, a village center and lodging.

It is being developed by Briar Tazuk, who was involved in the developmentof One Embarcadero South in San Francisco, and John Koeberer, whoseCalifornia Parks Company is a resort management and consulting firm. Thetwo formed Dyer Mountain Associates to create the resort and have said itwould be developed with an eye toward environmental sensitivity.
