• Visit weather.com/activities/recreation/ski/ to compare conditions at resorts across your state, or tune into The Weather Channel for forecasts and updates.

• The Weather Underground breaks apart weather factors so you can focus on one at a time: prevalent weather, temperature, wind speed, precipitation amount and snowfall. View resort snow reports at wunderground.com/ski.

• East Coasters can check out the current North Atlantic oscillation at cpc.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/pna/nao.shtml. Negative readings mean cold temperatures—and likely snow—in the East.

• Track the jet stream at NCAR. Click on “ETA,” check the “loop all times” box in the Forecast Time column and click on 300 mb winds in the Aloft plots column.

• Other weather sites we like: snow-forecast.com, intellicast.com, windfinder.com and opc.ncep.noaa.gov, which is great for tracking low- and high-pressure systems

• There’s an app for that: AccuWeather, BBWeather, My Weather Mobile, PearlCast, The Weather Channel, WeatherBug and YWeather.
