Why We Ski: The Ski Train

Why We Ski 1103

Leading west into the mountains from Denver's handsome Union Station, a set of railroad tracks connects Colorado's past to its present. The Ski Train has shuttled skiers to the city's Winter Park since 1940, back when a leisurely train ride was the main mode of transportation through the mountains. Today it's a darn good alternative to the snarl of I-70 traffic. Now, like then, it offers 56 miles of ever-changing scenery, a comfy seat to relax in and perhaps the most unusual venue for après-ski cocktails anywhere in North America.
