Mount Snow has been a household name in Eastern skiing for nearly 70 years now, and it’s easy to understand why. Plenty of snow coverage on perfectly manicured trails is Mount Snow’s M.O. It’s also wonderfully close to major metropolitan hubs, making it a reader-favorite when it comes to convenience. Mount Snow’s location does tend to be a double-edged sword, however, as New Yorkers and Bostonians flock en masse on most weekends, making crowding an issue.

With four distinct mountains easily accessed from either of the two top-to-bottom lifts, there’s plenty of room to socially distance. Mount Snow has something for everyone, from the swooping cruisers in the Sunbrook area to the steeps on the North Face to Carinthia’s world-famous terrain parks. Local Tip

Though Mount Snow may lack some charm, the nearby town of Wilmington more than makes up for the deficit. Just 15 minutes from the mountain, Wilmington abounds with dining and après joints that absolutely ooze Vermont flavor.

Après Spot

The Dover Bar and Grill, referred to affectionately by locals as “DBAGs”, is a true ol’ fashioned ski town dive bar. No glitz or glam here, just cold beer and good company. Chat up patrollers, shoot some pool, and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

Local Tip

Start and end your day at Carinthia. Not only is it a convenient base for the day, but for a small fee, you can park 50 feet from the lift.

Dinner Pick

Folly, located in nearby Wilmington, creates a weekly Friday through Sunday menu based on what is fresh and available. Divine farm-to-table dining.

Only 1.5 hours from Albany, a relatively easy 3.5-hour drive from Boston, and within weekend-distance from NYC.

Value

Skiers between the ages of 18-29 get unrestricted, unlimited access to Mount Snow for $399 on the Peak Drifter Pass. Seriously.

Those who lament Mount Snow’s moderate terrain can head to Ripcord, a rite of passage. Steep, quick and semi-crazy, it’s a worthy proving ground.

The Bull Wheel. The view from the summit partners with great food (try the PERL sandwich) and a great selection of Vermont microbrews. Bonus: Crowds forget about it midday, leaving it open for you.
