Truckee, CA, Oct. 12, 2000–With yesterday’s opening Boreal Mountain Resort in the Sierras became the first ski area in the nation to open their slopes for the 2000-2001 ski season. This opening, the earliest on record for Boreal, came after Monday’s storm dumped almost a foot of powder. Round the clock snowmaking added a few more inches to nature’s gift, bringing an 8 to 12-inch base at the bottom of the only open run, Gunnar’s.
The ski area offered a free night of skiing on Wednesday in celebration of the beginning of their new season. Starting today lift tickets cost a reduced rate of $20 and the hours of operation will be from 8 A.M. to 3 P.M. The day after Thanksgiving night skiing will resume nightly from 3:30 P.M. to 9 P.M.
Boreal is currently open on a day to day basis, so call and check the status of both the roads and the ski area before you head up the hill. Call 530-426-3666 or visit www.skiboreal.com for information.
