Boulder, CO, Oct. 4, 2001– Approximately 200 winter resorts, trail systems, snow sport retailers and rental shops across the country will participate in this winter?s “Take Your daughter to the snow Week,” January 28 ? February 3, 2002.
Picabo Street is once again the national spokeswoman. “Participating in snowsports is a great way for a family to enjoy exercise and the great outdoors together,” says Street, whose credits include one Olympic gold, one Olympic silver and a downhill world championship. “Take Your Daughter to the Snow Week offers something for everyone. I invite you to take advantage of the many activities across the country being offered for alpine and nordic skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers.”
Once again, snowlink.com, consumer website for SnowSports Industries America (SIA), is the title sponsor. National Sports Network, publishers of numerous city sports newspapers and RSN, a national cable television and web network specializing in region-specific content for outdoor enthusiasts, return as promotional sponsors. Mary Jo Tarallo, director of communications for SIA commented that “we’re thrilled to be sponsoring Daughter Week for the fifth year in a row. This is one of the best programs in the industry and we hope daughters and their families participate in it and have a great time.”
Individual resorts and cross-country centers are putting together their own programs, which vary from weekend activities to a week full of choices. A common denominator is a substantial discount (or 2 for price of 1) on lift and trail tickets when moms and dads bring their daughter (niece, sister, or granddaughter) to the ticket window. In addition, the individual resort programs may include any one or a combination of specials on food, equipment rentals, lessons, clinics, race courses, tubing, snowshoeing, ski bikes, women?s workshops, plus some end-of-the-day events and more. Each year the areas and shops develop new ideas to enhance the joy of being outdoors in winter and provide a great family experience.
Nina Kemppel, three-time Olympian and fifteen-time national champion, is enthusiastically endorsing Daughter Week, encouraging nordic centers and retailers across the country to use the opportunity to expose daughters of all ages to cross country skiing. “Cross country skiing is my passion and I want everybody possible to share it with me. My parents started me on skis at a very early age and it was a great way for our family to enjoy both physical fitness and the outdoors. I encourage all moms and dads to take your daughters out to the ski trails. Contact your local participating nordic center.”
Retailers and rental shops participating in the “Daughter” event are also scheduling a variety of programs that may include discounts on equipment rentals, equipment tune-ups, storewide promotions on clothing and gear and how-to clinics. Some are organizing weekend bus programs and others are even closing the store one evening for private clinics, personalized shopping and entertainment.
“Take your Daughter to the Snow Week”, promoted by Snow Sports Association for Women (SSAW), is a national snow industry grassroots evennt to promote girl?s and women?s participation in all snow sports. In the five years they have been promoting this national program, SSAW has seen it grow not only in numbers but also in texture. The resort programs are generating countless “thank you?s” for memorable experiences as families reconnect through shared activities in the beautiful environments of snow covered mountains.
