American Skiing Company Hires Universal Vet as COO

Newry, ME, Mar. 28--American Skiing Company (ASC) announced Monday hired William Fair, a 38-year-old veteran ofUniversal Studios and Disney theme parks and resorts, as its new presidentand chief operating officer. Fair will assume responsibility for theperformance of all nine ASC resorts and report to Les Otten, ASC chairmanand chief executive officer. The appointment essentially fills the positionleft vacant when Warren Cook left the company more than a year ago.

"William Fair brings a unique mix of talents to our company," says Ottenwho adds that Fair has a proven track record in resort development andoperations. He will be responsible for the bottom line in resort operationsand will have each of the individual resort presidents and managingdirectors reporting directly to him beginning in May.

Most recently, Fair was president of the Universal Studios Port Aventurapark in Tarragona, Spain where he helped increase visits by 16 percent andrevenues by 20 percent. Before that, Fair served as vice president ofUniversal Creative, where he was in charge of planning and operations ofthe company's global resort development group. He also served as Disney'sdirector of finance and business planning, leading to Disneyland's currentexpansion, and has experience in residential development and real estatefinance.
