PERISHER BLUE, AUSTRALIA – (Press Release) – Perisher Blue is ready to stage some of Australia’s biggest and most spectacular skiing and snowboarding events this August. With this season’s favorable snowfalls and further snow this week, visitors to the resort will be spoilt for choices of entertainment. Not only will there be excellent skiing and snowboarding across the four-resort areas, but also an exciting calendar of events providing entertainment for all, competitors and spectators alike.

The following key events have been scheduled:

Coca Cola Wild Winter Weekend This Weekend (Aug. 4-5)A part of Perisher Blue’s folklore! This jumble of radical events featuring the Dash, Leap, Pipe and Jump is sure to provide plenty of thrills, spills and mayhem.

Saturday: Dash for Cash and Leap for Loot. The Dash for Cash involves a mass start of skiers and snowboarders who speed down the Olympic run reaching speeds of over 100km/hr, run up a gruelling hill, put their skis or snowboard back on, speed more down through the Sun Valley Bowl and finally stumble their way across snow obstacles in quest of the cash stash. The Leap for Loot is a big air event for freerider skiers and snowboarders judged on the degree of difficulty of their tricks and how high they fly.

Sunday: In the Pipe and Jump for Cash. Some of Australia’s best freeride skiers and snowboarders can be seen throwing down stylish manoeuvres in the PSP Superpipe on Front Valley. In the afternoon, watch the crazy competitors Jump for Cash into a pool of frigid water.

Planet X Winter Games (Aug. 11-12)The Planet X Winter Games is an invitational event with a carefully selected field of 6 professional skiers and 6 professional snowboarders consisting of both Australian and international guests. This year Planet X will introduce the ¼ Pipe Tow-in, a world first event involving an Urban Rider high-powered winch system to accelerate riders into a specially designed Quarter Pipe and the Back Country Huck and Chuck. Athletes will be transported to a back country location and ‘Chuck’ or launch off the cliff edge and perform their aerial manoeuvres before landing in quest of the coveted Planet X Gold Medal and their slice of the prize pool.

Garnier Fructis Australian Open, presented by Burton (Aug. 22-25)The biggest event ever seen on the Australian snowboarding calendar, with over $100,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs, the Open is a must for any serious competitor. Over 140 of the best local and international riders will compete in Superpipe and Slopestyle snowboard disciplines. The Open is part of the world-class Burton Global Open Series Snowboard ‘Ticket To Ride’ (TTR) Tour, a cumulation of the top-rating snowboarding events across four continents and a 10-month competition period.

The Boost Mobile SnoSho, presented by Samsung (Aug. 31 – Sept. 1)Australia’s best snowboarders’ battle it out to see who can ride the world’s longest rail and make their mark in a pure test of skill, technical prowess and intestinal fortitude. Combine this with a high-flying air and rail stunt challenge and you have a unique spectacle not to be missed. This amazing event just keeps getting better & better.

Other events include the Masters Alpine Championships (Aug. 4-5), TeleMania 2 (Aug. 4), FreeHeel de Femme (Aug. 5), Perisher Children’s Series (Aug. 11-12), the Australian Junior TTR 1-Star Series (Aug. 18-19), the NSW Interschools Championships (Aug. 23-27) and the Australian University Championships (Aug. 26-30).
