Madarao, Japan, Jan. 29–For the second time in a week, Ann Battelle(Steamboat Springs, CO) found herself on a podium as she finished secondSaturday in a World Cup dual moguls event behind German Sandra Schmitt.
Battelle, who won a singles event last Saturday at the Sprint U.S.Freestyle Grand National at Heavenly, picked up her fourth World Cuppodium finish of the season with the second place finish. Sweden’s MarjaElfman was third while Norwegian Kari Traa, the World Cup points leader,was fourth.
Aside from the win at Heavenly, Battelle has posted a second in mogulsat Deer Valley and a second in dual moguls at Whistler. Schmitt edgedout Battelle for the win at Deer Valley. Battelle remains in secondplace on the duals points list behind Traa.
Other American finishers included Justine Van Houte (Telluride, CO) in atie for fifth and Jillian Vogtli (Ellicotville, NY) and Shannon Bahrke(Tahoe City, CA), who each tied for ninth.
Japan’s Yugo Tsukita felt right at home as he won the men’s competitionover duals points leader Stepane Rochon of Canada. Fellow CanadianJean-Luc Brassard was third and France’s Johann Gregoire was fourth.Ryan Riley (Steamboat Springs, CO) was the top American tied for ninth,while Alex Wilson (Buffalo, NY) tied for 17th.
A singles event will be held Sunday in Japan.
