Breckenridge, CO Nov. 24 (AP)–Germany’s Simone Behringer posted the fastest second run Tuesday to win women’s giant slalom at the $100,000 Super Series.

American Julia Mancuso, 15, started 45th but finished second.

Behringer won with a two-run time of 2 minutes, 16.66 seconds with Mancuso, of Tahoe City, Calif., timed in 2:16.78. Italian Nicole Gius was third with a time of 2:16.91.

Three other U.S. racers finished in the top 10 at Breckenridge Ski Area. Courtney Strait of Clifton Park, N.Y., was fifth with Sarah Schleper of nearby Vail, Colo., seventh and Kristina Koznick of Burnsville, Minn., eighth.

“The course held up really well,” Mancuso said. “It was a little surprising but I wasn’t too nervous. I stayed pretty relaxed.” Copyright © 1999 The Associated Press
