No. 6, Sugarbush Golf Club, Waitsfield, Vt.

As if regretting the way it treated you in January, Vermont goes soft in June. And lush. And oh-so-green-though nowhere more so than on Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s masterpiece of mountain-course design, the Sugarbush Golf Club. While you wait to tee off on No. 6, take in the views: the trails of Sugarbush tumbling off Lincoln Peak straight ahead; Camel’s Hump looming to the north. No. 6 drops 200 feet from tee to green, and it slants right, so play to your draw and swing easy. Then it’s a 7-iron to the green. Better to be short than long: There’s trouble on all sides. But on a day like this, “trouble” is a relative term. 18 holes, $54; 800-537-8427; sugarbush.com
