Whitefish, MT, Nov. 28, 2000–Outside of Big Mountain’s ‘Stube, winter revelers ignited an enormous bonfire for the 28th annual “Pray for Snow Party.” Skis and snowboards were tossed into the blaze as a sacrifice to Ullr, the God of Snow.
“Once again the snow gods delivered for us,” said Brian Schott, Big Mountain PR manager. “For the past three years that I have actually watched the fire it has snowed, something’s working,” he added.
Last Saturday proved no different, as five inches of fresh snow fell on the partygoers performing snow dances below. To guarantee that the annual winter kick-off event would reach the attention of Ullr, fireworks capped off the event.
Big Mountain at Whitefish opened on Thanksgiving Day and currently has about five percent of its terrain open with three runs and a 14-inch base. It shouldn’t be long before Ullr begins to really hurl snow down on the Montana slopes.
