Boulder (press release) – Andy Bigford, currently Editor-in-Chief of Mountain Sports Media’s SKI Magazine, has been promoted to Vice President, General Manager of the group’s Warren Miller Entertainment. Bigford replaces Bailey Pryor, who is leaving to launch his own film production company. Kendall Hamilton of MBA Jungle magazine has been named Editor of SKI Magazine, replacing Bigford. Both appointments, announced today by Andy Clurman, President of Time4 Media’s Mountain Sports Media, are effective immediately.
In his new role as Vice President, General Manager of Warren Miller Entertainment, Bigford will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Mountain Sports’ Warren Miller franchise, which includes the annual feature film, the international film tour, and all Warren Miller Films’ productions. In his new role, Bigford will also work closely with Mountain Sports’ and Time4’s leading brands in the development of cross-platform editorial and marketing programs.
During his seven years at SKI, Bigford solidified the magazine’s position as the world’s leading authority on equipment, instruction and travel and received consecutive Folio awards for general excellence among all special interest magazines. His role in the launch of SKI’s “Mountain Life” segments on CNN and participation in the production of the last two feature films make him ideally suited to lead Warren Miller.
“Andy’s leadership skills, and multi-media experience have elevated SKI Magazine to the leading brand within Mountain Sports and all ski media. These skills and his passion for winter sports make him uniquely qualified to lead Warren Miller,” said Clurman.
Bigford, who served as Editor-in-Chief of SKI Magazine since 1996, led the magazine to its place as the leading authority on equipment, instruction and travel for Baby Boomers and their families. Prior to joining SKI Magazine, Bigford was a senior editor for Snow Country magazine, and from 1989 to 1995, he served as the editor-in-chief for a Vermont-based group of magazines, which included Ski Racing, Ski Tech and the New England Skiers Guide. He was also the editor of the Aspen Daily News as well as the editor and publisher of the Summit County Journal in Breckenridge, CO.
Hamilton joins SKI Magazine from MBA Jungle where he served as Deputy Editor for three years. Previously he was a Senior Features Editor at Details following a seven-year stint at Newsweek.
“Simply put, Kendall is an outstanding magazine editor,” said Clurman. “He not only has great passion for our sport, but also a unique perspective that will undoubtedly further SKI’s efforts in leading the agenda for the sport and industry.”
