Breckenridge, CO, Oct. 29--Snow-filled clouds hung over Breckenridge Ski Resort throughout the resort's first day of the season. Over 100 eager people greeted the third ski area in Colorado to open at 8:30 a.m. this morning.
The Beaver Run SuperChair did the honors carrying over 1,000 visitors throughout the day's snowstorm to the top of the upper Columbia trail. "There seemed to be a nice pace of visitors all day long," said Jim Felton, Breckenridge marketing director.
By 5:00 a.m. 6 new inches of snow piled up from the evening's storm and another two to three blanketed the mountain before the 12:00 costume contest.
"You can't start a season off on a better foot than we did today," said Felton. "Everyone enjoyed the Halloween festivities, the turn out was good, all lift ticket proceeds go to the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, and the new snow was frosting on the cake."
Below the 9,000 feet of snowy terrain the annual costume contest drew a crowd. Mad motorcyclists, elves, hipsters, and household appliances mingled about, cashing in on prizes and fun.
