Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) has been a very busy woman this season. In addition to constantly having to fight the battle to retain her World Cup overall and downhill titles, Vonn has taken World Championship gold. Vonn took a minute to sit down and answer some off the cusp questions on racing, life, and the nickname Chris Rock has for her – all this before she won two World Championship titles.

Your goal was to get one gold medal at World Championships, now you have two.

It’s incredible. I raced with my heart and I’m so happy. It’s been an incredible World Championships for me. I hope things continue to go well.

Is it hard for you to be in the same company as great heroes like Andrea Mead Lawrence, Gretchen Fraser and others?

It’s really weird. I just feel honored to be with those great ski legends. I don’t picture myself among such great skiers. I’m still just trying to ski my best everyday.

Now that you have your two crystal globes, where do you keep them and how hard was it to work them in to the decorating scheme in your house?

They’re downstairs in some well lit glass cabinets next to my autographed picture of Roger Federer.

Do you sit down and make goals for yourself every season and what is that process like?

I do in the spring. I make goals for the next season and that’s what motivates me to train hard though the summer.

What, outside of having his hillside expertise, is the best part of having your husband on tour with you?

Having him here makes me feel like I’m at home so I never get homesick. It’s good to have that support structure always as a part of my life.

You’ve been able to design your Spyder race suits this season because of getting the overall last season. Is the thought of getting to do it again added incentive to get you to win the overall this year?

Definitely, it’s been really fun this year. It was such a fun process choosing the colors. I’m looking to be a bit more creative with it next year, hopefully.

A lot of downhills have been canceled this year. Some people would think you just take the day off – like a snow day – but what do you really do?

I definitely take the day off. I love to sleep and a day off is really the only time I can do that. I also catch up on emails and old episodes of

Law and Order

Explain to us what your favorite part of racing a downhill is.

That’s an easy one – Speed!

True or false: You and actor Chris Rock have nicknames for each other.

He had a nickname for me. It’s LV, but I don’t have one for him. I just called him Chris. He was bummed out I didn’t have one for him.

When you think about coming home at the end of the season, what is the first thing you want to do and why?

Sleep in my own bed and do my laundry.

Anything else to add before we let you go?

Yah, thanks to all my fans for the support. Drop me a line anytime at
