LAKE LOUISE, Alberta Dec. 8, 2002 (USSA)–Versatile Kirsten Clark (Raymond, ME) maintained her hot streak Sunday, finishing fourth for her fourth World Cup top-5 in a row in the super G that concluded the Winterstart World Cup races at Lake Louise. Jonna Mendes (Heavenly, CA) was ninth on her favorite race course.

Italy’s Karen Putzer, skiing 30th, won her third World Cup race with a time of 1:10.68 with Martina Ertl of Germany second in 1:10.97 and Olympic downhill champ Carole Montillet of France, who won Saturday’s DH, third (1:11.13).

Clark, the Carrabassett Valley Academy graduate, who was fourth a week earlier in the super G at the Chevy Truck Aspen Winternational, third Friday in a downhill and fifth Saturday in another DH, was timed in 1:11.28. Mendes, who scored her first World Cup points, first top-20 and first top-10, was ninth with Caroline Lalive (Steamboat Springs, CO) 18th, Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA) 20th, and Katie Monahan (Aspen, CO) 30th.

“The girls were charging. They came out full-gas,” said women’s DH/SG Head Coach Jim Tracy. “Clarky skied so well across the top and through the middle. She didn’t have any big mistakes?

“They skied really well, even the young ones (Libby Ludlow, Bellevue, WA, and Bryna McCarty, Concord, VT) who are getting some good experience. Caroline was really good, too, although she got a little too aggressive in a couple of turns and couldn’t hold her tuck, but they were going for it, which we want them to keep doing.”

The women return to Europe for races starting Thursday in Val d’Isere, France, with a GS and then a super G.
