Crested Butte, CO, Feb. 6, 2002 (CBMR Press Release) -- Grab your masks and beads and head to the Butte. There is nothing quite like Mardi Gras in Crested Butte. "The Butte" will host its own party with a masquerade ball, costume contests, and an authentic Fat Tuesday parade and party.
Mardi Gras refers to the season of flamboyant revelry between January 6 and Fat Tuesday. Such a season can only end with something as equally dramatic; Ash Wednesday, February 13th, which marks the first day of Lent and the beginning of repenting for our sinful ways. The season of climaxes on February 12th where Crested Buttians will revel with all the pleasures they can handle until the stroke of midnight. "It's the perfect end to a sinfully fantastic season!" said Suzanne Hadley, Mardi Gras coordinator.
The Masquerade Ball takes place Saturday, February 9th at the Le Bosquet Restaurant in the Town of Crested Butte. The $75 ticket includes a four course dinner including a piece of King Cake, prizes for best costume and an authentic Dixieland Jazz band with proceeds going to the Crested Butte Mountain Theatre.
The Fat Tuesday parade will begin at 5:30 PM, at the Depot in town, culminating with the Mardi Gras celebration at the Rafters, located slope side at the ski area. The eight piece live band, Mingo Fishtrap, will entertain the party goers while door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening's festivities. Tickets cost $15. To register or for further "Carnival" information, please call Suzanne Hadley at 349-0366.
