Enduring Grandeur: Eagle Mountain House, Jackson

Travel East

The Eagle Mountain House, snuggled in Jackson's Carter Notch, isn't the biggest or fanciest grand, but it's a favorite of families who frequent nearby Black Mountain—and also of cross-country skiers, who can step out the front door and onto the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation's trails. It evokes the essence of a grand hotel without the price or pretense. It's a bit creaky, and of all the grands, it's the one where you're most likely to think you've seen a ghost. But the emphasis on comfort over elegance means it's OK to put your feet up and snooze by the lobby fireplace, and there's no need to fret if the kids make a little noise.
