Erik Schlopy Wins Super Series Slalom in New York

Hunter, NY Jan. 3--Veteran Erik Schlopy (Park City, UT) overcamesteady rain and took charge on the second run Monday to win a SuperSeries slalom at Hunter Mountain by two-hundredths of a second over Tom Rothrock (Cashmere, WA), with Sacha Gros (Vail, CO) another .02 back in third.

Schlopy posted the third fastest second run as the weather-troubledSuper Series resumed at the ski area an hour north of Manhattan. Histwo-run time was 1:31.31 with Rothrock, a U.S. Development Team racer who skis out of California's Mammoth Mountain program, runnerup in 1:31.33. Gros was clocked in at 1:31.35 in the 32-degree weather.

Completing the top five: Drew Thorne-Thomsen (Stratton Mountain, VT) in fourth place and Tyler Shepherd (Cottage Grove, MN), another development squad racer, who came through the Ski Club Vail program.

The slalom was first of four Super Series races at Hunter; the schedule continues Tuesday with another slalom before two giant slaloms on Wednesday and Thursday.
