Krompachy, Slovakia Feb. 21, 2004 (USST) — Kaylin Richardson (Edina, MN) tied for the fastest second run Saturday and went on to post her first Europa Cupo victory, capturing a giant slalom in 2:14.30. Lauren Ross (Stowe, VT) was 18th.
Richardson, who was .02 behind Canadian Brigitte Acton on the first run, tied with Jessica Walter of Liechtenstein on the second run. Walter was second (2:14.41) while Acton ran into problems and finished third (2:14.81).
“Kaylin skied great,” said U.S. Coach Trevor Wagner. “It was cool with everyone so close and hundredths and tenths of a second could make a big difference. Conditions were perfect — the best conditions we’ve had on the Europa Cup this year; you could’ve come out of the back to win — and Kaylin just laid one down. It was fun to watch.”
