Sunday River, ME, Jan. 18–The snow started hard, when it hit early Sunday morning around 5:00 am, at Sunday River, ME. By the time the lifts opened, between three and four inches had fallen.

“It was a classic winter wonderland,” said Ryan Triffit, manager of communications for Sunday River. “Light fluffy, that kind of powder that you dream of in the East. This is it.”

The storm was icing on the cake for skiers enjoying the Martin Luther King weekend. About 88 percent of Sunday River’s terrain was already open with a solid base from snowmaking, and this storm added perfect powder to the mix.

Sunday River was able open up more terrain this weekend, and resort officials say they are one more good snowstorm away from being 100 percent open.
