Arapahoe Basin, CO

Colorado Wild and other environmental groups object to A-Basin’s plan to upgrade three lifts, add more parking, improve base area buildings and create a tubing park. The ski area’s proposal to withdraw water from the North Fork of the Snake River for snowmaking has also come under fire because of concerns that it would increase the concentration of heavy metals that leach from old mines in the upstream watershed. A-Basin needs the water for snowmaking to achieve its goal of becoming a year-round ski area.
