The site of the downhill events for the upcoming 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics is embroiled in a battle with Save Our Canyons, which is critical of a planned land exchange with the Forest Service at the base of the ski area. Issues center around the value of the private parcels that owner Earl Holding is willing to give up in return for 1,377 acres of Forest Service land. Local groups also have raised concerns about a new access road that is being built to the ski area. They have also complained about an aging waste treatment system that might not be able to handle an expansion without posing problems to nearby Wheeler Creek, a source of drinking water for the city of Ogden.
