Squaw Valley, CA – (News Release) – The spirit of the Olympics is alive in Squaw Valley as San Francisco 49ers players, coaches and management square off against Olympians and other celebrities at the San Francisco 49ers Foundation Sixth Annual Celebrity Winter Fest on March 16-19 at the Resort at Squaw Creek.
Phil and Steve Mahre highlight a group of Olympians who will compete in the ski race. Other Olympians include Franz Weber (speed skier), Kristen Krone (skier), Martin Bell (skier) and Jeff Hamilton (speed skier).
San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Mike Nolan, Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers Coach Mike Singletary, Defensive Coordinator Billy Davis and Wide Receivers Coach Jerry Sullivan will join several current 49ers players including Alex Smith, Arnaz Battle, Jonas Jennings, Justin Smiley, Maurice Hicks, Ken Dorsey and P.J. Fleck at the three-day event.
Former 49ers Super Bowl champions Eric Wright (1981, 84, 88, 89), Keena Turner (1981, 84, 88, 89), Guy McIntyre (1984, 88, 89) and Gary Plummer (1994) are a few of the alumni players that will participate.
The 49ers Foundation Celebrity Winter Fest is the premier fundraising event for the 49ers Foundation, which provides financial support and helps to increase awareness of non-profit programs and organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Under the leadership of Denise and John York, the Foundation has become one of the premiere foundations in the NFL. In 2005, the 49ers Foundation had a record year raising and distributing more than $1 million to non-profit organizations.
There will be a reception and silent auction on Friday night and the ski race will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Squaw Valley. There also will be a dinner and live auction on Saturday night. Members of the media are welcome to participate in the ski race.
