CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (AP) — Austria’s Renate Goetschl won a super giant slalom Friday for her fourth victory of the season.
Martina Ertl of Germany was the runner-up, 0.43 seconds behind, and countrywoman Hilde Gerg finished third, 0.43 seconds back. The top American was Kirsten Clark in ninth place.
Goetschl was timed in 1 minute, 10.59 seconds for her fifth win in Cortina. She moved within 72 points of overall standings leader Anja Paerson of Sweden, who was 14th.
Goetschl was skiing with an injured thumb after crashing during a super-G in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, on Sunday. This season, she has two victories in the super-G and two in the downhill.
Canada’s Genevieve Simard, who scored her first career victory in a super-G on Wednesday, fell near the end of her run after posting two excellent intermediate times.
