Governor Walker to Sign Backcountry Awareness Proclamation

Snowbird, UT Jan 12, 2004 – Utah Governor Olene S. Walker signed a proclamation naming Jan. 19-25 Utah Backcountry Awareness Week on Monday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. The announcement coincides with the first annual Backcountry Awareness Week at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort Jan. 23-25 that will bring together various backcountry users and experts to raise awareness and funds for Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center.

The Backcountry Awareness events at Snowbird Jan. 23-25 include on-snow demos for the public, avalanche equipment and safety seminars, a Black Hat Fundraiser, giveaways and live music.
