If it’s a Coke you want, then you’ll need to make a 7-Eleven run. But for a sports drink, chances are you have the makings for a do-it-yourself brew right in your kitchen. Simply dissolve a tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt in a tablespoon of OJ, add 7.5 ounces of cold water, stir, and — voilà — you’ve got a sweeter version of orange Gatorade. This simple recipe offers the energy benefits of a bottled sports drink without extras like brominated vegetable oil. For variety, substitute two tablespoons of lemon juice for the OJ.
