Intrawest Introduces Intrawest Colorado

Denver, CO (January 8, 2003)- Intrawest Corporation introduced Intrawest Colorado today, an organization created to oversee the operation of Winter Park and Copper Mountain, as well as all Breeze/Max ski and snowboard retail/rental outlets. This move joins what many Colorado skiers and riders claim to be their two favorite resorts with some of the most accessible rental and retail outlets in the western United States. The first order of business for Intrawest Colorado is the creation of a joint season pass program, allowing skiers and riders to visit both Winter Park/Mary Jane and Copper Mountain for the remainder of the 2002-2003 winter season.

As of today, skiers and riders who hold a current season pass to either Winter Park or Copper now have a pass valid at both mountains. Winter Park passes can be used at Copper by simply having them scanned in the lift line, and vice versa. This new access requires no further action by pass holders – they are set to hit the slopes. While early season pass prices are no longer available, individuals wanting to purchase a pass that gives them access to all Copper and Winter Park have to offer can still do so. Passes valid at both mountains can still be purchased for $825 for adults, $595 for teens and $395 for kids.

In conjunction with today’s announcement, Hugh Smythe, president of Intrawest Corporation’s Resort Operations Group, has announced the promotion of David Barry to senior vice president, Intrawest Colorado. Barry will have overall responsibility for the operation of Copper and Winter Park, as well as the Intrawest Retail Group, which oversees 51 rental and retail stores across nine states. Barry joined Intrawest in 1991 as director of Marketing and Sales at Mont-Tremblant, and held the same position at Blackcomb from 1994 until 1997, when he was transferred to Copper Mountain as vice president, Sales and Marketing. In 1999 Barry assumed responsibility for Copper as chief operating officer.

“Colorado skiers and riders are always telling us what they want – incredible terrain and overall value always top the list,” said Barry. “Put Winter Park and Copper together and you’ve got 5,319 acres, 44 lifts and 259 trails. You’d be hard pressed to find better value on a greater selection of terrain anywhere. We also now have the ability to bring more overnight visitors into the state due to an increase in variety and value. Anyway you look at it, Colorado wins.”
