ZAGREB, Croatia, Jan. 28 2004 (AP) — Croatia’s Ivica Kostelic might miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee and shoulder in World Cup slalom race.
Kostelic tore knee ligaments and hurt his shoulder blade in a crash Tuesday, and the skier will be examined in Basel, Switzerland, Kostelic’s spokesman, Ozren Mueller said.
“We are waiting for the final results,” Mueller told The Associated Press. “But we can already say that almost certainly, he’s out for this season.”
The examination will determine what kind of surgery Kostelic might need, Mueller said.
The 26-year-old Kostelic had a strong start in Tuesday’s race in Schladming, Austria, but crashed and landed heavily on his hip and shoulder.
It took medics nearly 15 minutes to get Kostelic off the course.
