Elk Mountain Resort might offer the first postmodern holiday: It packs heat along with its 50-thread-count linens. Tucked into the San Juan mountains near Telluride, Colo., the luxury resort targets the security-savvy vacationer with self-defense classes and a shooting facility that includes a mock bar, house and Boeing 737, all manned by bad-guy mannequins. Using live ammo, your family can learn “how to deploy your weapon from a holster, engage multiple targets and the proper use of speed reloads.” As a resort ad touts: “Save the world by day and relax with fine cuisine by night.”
