Kirkwood also has its new skier/boarder X course, halfpipe, and three terrain parks open for the jibbers in the crew. The Timber Creek Base Area, recently named “Top Ten Places to Learn to Ski by USA Today, offers some of the best conditions for beginner skiers and snowboarders along with convenient facilities for lessons and rentals.

Kirkwood’s Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Center is 100% open with over 80km of groomed trails for classic and skate skiing as well as snowshoeing, including dog friendly trails for the four-legged member of the family. There will be a Snowshoe Shuffle this Sunday, Jan. 27, providing great views of the High Sierra and a fun day striding on snowshoes. The relaxing pace of the hike provides time to enjoy the surrounding area and learn about the history and geology of the Sierras. Pre-registration is required. Expedition: Kirkwood, California’s only resort-based education program designed to take skiers and riders beyond their boundaries, will be offering a 1 Day All Mountain Ski Clinic this Saturday, Jan. 26, in conjunction with Rossignol Skis. Participants will get to test the latest gear from Rossignol and enjoy the advantages of group camaraderie, express lift lines and going places you never knew existed at Kirkwood. In addition, participants receive personalized instruction, lunch, and video analysis.
For those interested in furthering their knowledge of backcountry exploration, Kirkwood is excited to once again offer AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Courses this Sat., Jan. 26, & Sun., Jan. 27, along with the opening of our free avalanche beacon practice area known as “Beacon Basin. The Kirkwood Cup is a series of seven events designed to determine the best all around skiers and riders in the area. Athletes will accumulate points over the course of the season in disciplines such as slopestyle, skier/boarder X, halfpipe, banked slalom and big mountain freeride competitions. This Sunday, Jan. 27, will be the third event in the series with participants competing in a Skier/Boarder X Event. Registration is $30 and will take place the day of the event in the Red Cliffs Day Lodge from 8-10 A.M. There will be live music this Saturday, Jan. 26, with “Frankie Ferreira performing at the Wall Bar from 1-5 P.M. There will also be a Kid’s Night with movies and pizza on Saturday, Jan. 26, in the Red Cliffs Day Lodge with a start time of 6 P.M. for ages 7 & under and 8:00pm for ages 8 & up.
